Dreading Monday?

A lot of people feel it sometime late Sunday afternoon…that dreaded feeling that the weekend is almost over and Monday morning is on its way. Ever been there?

What if you never had to feel that dread again?

What are you going to be doing Monday through Friday from let’s say about 8am to 5pm? Is it something that 1) energizes your mind, 2) honors your purpose, and 3) allows you to express your creativity? If so, you are in the minority! I encourage you to go out and help others figure out how to do the same. If your answer to the question is more like, “no, that sounds nothing like my job,” there’s hope!

What would you do for free? If money was no object, what kind of work would you do for free? What is it that you love to do even if no one was paying you to do it? Are you a designer, an idea generator, a coach, an event coordinator, an author? Whatever it is you love to do is likely connected to your life’s purpose. Where does your mind wander when you are trying to postpone doing that part of your job that you dislike the most (check out the picture below–great point)? It is a worthy investment of time for each of us to become self-aware concerning our true passion and how to integrate that passion into our day-to-day work lives.

Now What? Take the next step and begin considering what your dream job would look like if you could design it.  Take some steps toward making that a reality. Talk to trusted friends, seek advice from mentors, if you do not have a career mentor…enlist one, and sharpen your skills in areas of interest. Sometimes a temporary solution is to find creative ways to incorporate your passion into your current job. Example: If you are a people-person in a job that doesn’t have much people time, create ways to connect with and encourage your co-workers. If you are a creative type in a job that is pretty mundane, use your creativity to improve your work environment. The point is, find a way to incorporate your passion into your work life and enjoy the benefits of doing so. You can do it!

A word for leaders…Leaders within organizations have a tremendous opportunity to help employees identify those areas of work-passions, purpose, and creativity so as to place employees in a position within the organization where they are not only going to work but where they are going to thrive.
