3 Ways to Sit on Your Couch and Still Get Inspired

Need a little motivation? Even during your “off time,” you can get inspired and motivated! These 3 movies will inspire you if you love seeing the pain, process, and passion of brilliant business minds. Some movies just get your creative juices going! Here are my 3 picks that inspire, motivate, and energize.

RemoteControl

1) Jobs- This movie gives insight on the cost of success and the evolution of personal growth. From rising from the ashes of betrayal to repairing relationships that have gone awry, this movie provides a nice balance between creative inspiration and pertinent business lessons. Getting to see how Steve Jobs was a designer at heart and inspired those around him to focus on doing life differently inspires me to think outside the box!

2) Julie & Julia- Oh where do I begin! This is a parallel story between the life of Julia Child (the famous TV cook) and Julie Powell (one of the first pioneers of the blogging world). Both women went through a season of feeling a bit lost in life and found that by taking simple steps to embrace life, they stumbled upon their purpose and ultimately successful careers. I usually get half-way through this movie and either grab a pen to start jotting down ideas for future books and/or grab my laptop and begin writing!

3) The Social Network- I don’t know if I get more motivated by the fact that these guys began Facebook in their college dorm room or if it is seeing Justin Timberlake taking a real-life leap of faith by taking on this acting role (which he does a spectacular job at portraying Sean Parker!). This is a movie that throws out some friendly reminders about business partnerships cautions, intellectual property pitfalls, and that business success can’t fill the void of interpersonal relationships (so suggestion…work on both at the same time when possible).

One word of caution: I’m a huge advocate of using your fast-forward and mute button when you sense that the scene is about to change for the worse. These movies are incredible motivations but for those of you with little ones at home and/or sensitive ears/eyes (like me), be aware that these movies are not rated G. So, please be wise but also open to the positive in each!
